Lorena Carrington is an Australian photographic artist and illustrator. Her books include Vasilisa the Wise and Other Tales of Brave Young Women and The Buried Moon and Other Tales of Bright Young Women, both with fairy tales retold by Kate Forsyth; Wiser Than Evening, an illustrated collection of quotations from Fairy Tales, Poems and Literature; and Sightings with Jennifer Lehmann.
She exhibits regularly, contributes creative work to arts and literary festivals, and has artwork in national and international collections. She also presents talks and runs workshops in art, illustration and the relationship between text and image. She has appeared at conferences and major literary festivals to speak about visual storytelling, creating art in the Australian landscape, and feminism in myth and fairy tales.
Lorena’s illustrations are created from many photographs montaged together (up to 100 in each image), to create works that are rich with light and edged with darkness.
She grew up in a library and art studio so, after working as a photographer and practicing artist for twenty years, creating books feels like coming home.
